The Pittsburgh Steelers first round pick

Lots of Talent, lots of needs. By Joey Priano April 3, 2025 – The NFL Draft is approaching, so I thought it would be an appropriate time to do a deep dive into a franchise that has lots of question marks with the roster, is a popular team in the league, has a legendary head coach, and happens to be my favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.  The Pittsburgh Steelers have become very accustomed to picking outside of the top 10 (something that they have not done since 2000), so the difficulty of who to pick is something that they are used to. With the No. 21 overall pick this year, the Steelers have a very difficult choice in who they should draft. With options like Jaxson Dart, Matthew Golden, Walter Nolan, and many more, we will dive into each likely option for the Steelers, and the pros and cons of these top options. To begin, we will talk about the player with the most eyes on him, who many Steelers fans want them to take, Jaxson Dart. The Quarterback out of Ole Miss is a flashy n...

The first 4 picks of the NFL Draft

The early unpredictability of the 2025 NFL Draft By Joey Priano March 27, 2025 – As the upcoming NFL Draft approaches, NFL front offices continue to work to find the perfect fit for their teams. Each year, a new class of collegiate players will be tested and evaluated by each team until the end of April, when the teams will draft the best of the best to join their rosters for the next season. Often times the order of these picks can be confidently predicted. However, the top group of players in this year’s draft has not been as easy to predict, making the importance of the first few picks even stronger. In the 2024 draft, the top four picks of the draft went as follows: Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, Marvin Harrison Jr. This top four picks were predicted by fans and analysts all around the NFL, such as Daniel Jeremiah (NFL Network), Mel Kiper (ESPN), and Dane Brugler (The Athletic). With the needs of these teams being clear, predicting the order was not very difficul...

NFL Teams propose potential rule changes

How and why some teams want to see changes to the league. Joey Priano   In the last few days, it has been announced that four NFL teams have ideas for new rules that they believe should be implemented into the league. This post is to explain what exactly those rule changes would be, why specifically each team would want them, and if they would be beneficial for the league as a whole.  The first rule that a team wants implemented is the Green Bay Packers are trying to ban the “Tush Push”. The Tush Push, invented by the Philadelphia Eagles, has become one of the league’s most recognizable plays. When broken down, it is a Quarterback sneak play that works at a much higher efficiency rate, while at the same time, giving teams that use it successfully a 76.5% completion percentage on plays with 1 yard to go, with the eagles succeeding 82.4% of the time. If the league decided to ban this play, t he general fan consensus would see this as a mistake. Every team in the league has...

High School Track and field star pushes into collegiate running

Behind the running journey of Rebekah Priano By Joseph Priano     Rebekah (Bekah) Priano has been running since she was little. Playing youth soccer as early as she could, she was always outside and active. In 5th grade, she joined Girls on the Run. The after-school running club for girls was an early indication that she had the skill to run for long periods of time.    Going into middle school, it was recognized by Priano that distance was going to be her main event. She ran in various 5ks throughout the summer, joined Cross Country, and was consistently near the top of podiums for her demographic. After succeeding in middle school, continuing distance into high school seemed obvious, and so that is precisely what she did.   Entering high school, it was unclear whether Priano would stick to track, cross country, or both. Lots of distance runners do both, so also learning that she would run for varsity right away in both made the choice easy.   One o...

Who exceeded expectations and who did not in 2024

With the super bowl being over, and the NFL offseason having begun, there are many takeaways from this season to look at, as well as lots to look forward to in the close future. With the NFL Combine in March, the draft in April, and the constant curiosity of what free agents will sign where, there is lots to look forward to before the next season. However, I want to first look at last season and look at the biggest surprises and disappointments from around the league. In this post, I’ll showcase two teams that exceeded expectations, and two teams that fell short.  The first, and possibly most obvious team that exceeded their expectations this season must be the Minnesota Vikings. After winning the division in 2022, the Vikings lost a heartbreaker playoff game to the New York Giants, but it was still a successful year for the franchise. With expectations to return to the playoffs the following year, the Vikings fell incredibly short, finishing with a record of 7-10, tied for ...

Mars vs Chartiers Valley Game Recap

Mars vs Chartiers Valley Boys High School Basketball By Joey Priano Pittsburgh (02/09/2025) – The Mars area high school boys’ basketball team lost at home to the Chartiers Valley Colts by a score of 61-50 last Friday in their last regular season game, despite a 21 point night from senior Austin Campbell.  First Quarter The game started off well for the Fightin’ Planets, going on an early 8-2 run, closing out the quarter up 15-10. It was clear early on in this game that the battle would be between the two point guards on each team. Both seniors, Austin Campbell for Mars and Jayden Davis for the Colts, were playing this game with everything they had, hoping to win their final regular season game. Second Quarter Chartiers Valley dominated the second quarter, overtaking the lead and then growing it to 6 at halftime. Leading 28-22 at halftime, the Colts had important contributions from a pair of junior guards. Logan Helfrick and Danny Slizik each contributed 2 rebounds and 2 assi...

My introduction to everything football

Why I care about sharing my passion   To introduce myself for this first blog post, my name is Joey Priano, and I love sports. From the early years of my life, it was clear to my parents that sports were something that I was passionate about. Whether it's Hockey, baseball, basketball, soccer, running, or anything else you can think of, I cared about it. More than just enjoying the sport, I strived to talk about what was going on in the world of that sport with any and all people that would listen. But of every sport that I committed to following, football was the one that stood atop of them all. Growing up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, The Steelers were an easy favorite team. Backed by a rich history, extremely strong fanbase, and of course, cheering for whoever my Dad cheered for, the team and the sport became my favorite thing to discuss. As I grew older, I did not lose my love for any individual sports. As I approached middle school, high school, and college, if I were asked ...
